Everything Papercraft - Fabric

Fabric is a versatile and widely available item that can add both colour and texture to handmade cards. It comes in an endless array of patterns including holidays and celebrations, food, florals, children’s prints, animals, and so on. Most fabrics are easy to work with and can be glued, stitched or pierced to hold them in place.
Fabric can be used as a background by applying an adhesive, such as PVA, directly to the fabric and then laying it over a card front and smoothing out any air pockets, or it can be used in smaller pieces to embellish a larger design. Strips of fabric can replace ribbons, lace and pieces of patterned paper, and can be tied into decorative knots and bows.
It's also possible to stamp on fabric, which is great for making personalised t-shirts, bags or other items, or just to add a little more interest to your fabric embellishments. Here's a TUTORIAL.

Old Hound Dog

Kathy has created this cute card using the hound dog from the All That Jazz set of digital stamps as well as two of the sentiments - one for the front and one to decorate the middle. She has included a description of her card below.

I love how you colored the pup on this digi. So, I used the precolored version, adding a few shadows and highlights. I also attempted to add a bit of woodgrain texture to the base by sketching a wood pattern with a fine line tan maker, then adding some highlights with a white colored pencil to provide a light sheen. (I am not musically inclined- just ask my husband who has requested that I not sing in his presence- so I didn’t even recognize this instrument. My hubby identified it as a Bass or a Cello. So I did a it of research and learned a lot of neat things, including that this is a Bass, and plus found a photo that guided my coloring of it HERE

A Fun Collection

Anesha has used all three images from the Floating By set of stamps to create a fun collection of cards that would be ideal for summer birthdays, vacation notes or just to send someone a smile. Her bright colour palettes and cute die cut embellishments add even more cheer to these projects. Don't forget to head over to her personal blog for even more inspiration!

Let It All Hang Out

I won't mention where the inspiration for this fellow came from, but let's just say that the belly squeeze is a well-known phenomenon in my family!

Hot Tip Tuesday

Finding Inspiration
Everyone has an item or two (or more!) that they struggle to use in their crafting. Perhaps it's a stamp, an embellishment or a book of patterned paper. One way to help kick start the creative process is to do an internet search for the specific item you have, rather than a general search. For example, don't just look for "hand-stamped cards", instead, search for "seahorse cards" or use the name of the book of papers or the brand of the embellishment. A lot of businesses have galleries and blogs to show customers how their products can be used and you'll often pick up helpful hints and tips.

All That Jazz

Things are rockin' at Judy's place, and the proof is in these fabulous cards featuring jazzy tunes and sheet music as well as two of the funky musicians from the All That Jazz set of digital stamps! She has created two masculine cards using kraft cardstock and checked patterned paper that would be perfect for birthdays or words of encouragement.

Let's Go!

I wanted to get a sense of movement in this card, as though the characters are actually floating from one side to the other, bobbing along with the current. Stamping the first image slightly off the edge and then adding extra "waves" to the right-hand side of all the characters gives that directionality and sense of movement. I coloured everything first and then used both white and black pens to add in the additional lines.

Kathy's Old Geezer

Kathy always writes entertaining descriptions for her cards and projects, and this month she has kindly allowed me to use her own words to describe this fabulous card! Enjoy.

I had a box of decorated card fronts and envelopes in my stash and this one reminded me of an ebbing ocean scene. So I made it into that! I used just the front of the card, cutting it at the fold, and tearing it along the lower “foamy ocean edge.” I also tore fluffy clouds from scraps of white cardstock, and adhered them onto cloudy sky patterned paper to create the horizon. A little work with a light grey marker and my trusty white gel pen adds ripples to the water around the old geezer! (Oh, and I colored his nose with white and pale aqua to make is looks like he is wearing “Blue Lizard” sunscreen… in honor of all my Australian friends!)

Loads of Christmas Fun

A little red tractor pulling a little green wagon filled to the brim with candy and baubles is probably something you'd only see at the North Pole. I imagine Santa has need of all sorts of vehicles to transport the toys, decorations and wrapping from place to place, not to mention his workforce!

Carla has used the images from the Tractor Pull set to create four fantastically, festive Christmas cards that are sure to delight members of her family. She has mixed and matched various holiday themed papers with red and green cardstock for a traditional Christmas colour scheme.

Here's a close up of one of the images she coloured using polychromo pencils:

Jackie's Final Cards

I'm sad to announce that these are the final cards from our much-loved designer, Jackie Trinder. She will be retiring at the end of the month to spend more time with her family, including a lovely new grandbaby who will be arriving very soon!

Jackie has used three of the sea turtles from the Reef Travellers set to create these inspirational cards, perfect as gifts of encouragement or friendship. She has continued with the under-the-sea theme by mixing and matching cardstock and beautiful patterned paper that works perfectly with the images and sentiments.

Don't forget to stop by Jackie's blog for more of her beautiful work, and to become a follower of her posts.
