Shake A Tail Feather

This speckled hen is really getting her groove on! I started by colouring her entirely with copic markers in shades of dark grey through to black in the deepest shadow areas. The white dots were added with a fabulous Signo brand gel pen. A few pops of red give the design a little more oomph!

Tutorial: Background Stamping

Background stamping is a great way to ensure that your design is coordinated and harmonious, with the added benefit of being simple to achieve. The best way to create your own backgrounds is to use mediums, images and colours from the main image but in a more subtle way.

I'm using the same stamp on my background as I did on my focal image, but without the colour. I've stamped the entire background with blue ink, which I'll also use as a watery paint to fill in around each of the chickens.

Now I'm using the same ink and the same technique to add a little colour around my focal image. This will help tie in with the background I created.

April Challenge

Create a card or paper-craft project using any Beccy's Place image, upload a photo of it to your blog or other hosted site, and submit a direct link below. The challenge runs from now until midnight on the 30th of April 2019 (AEST).

To keep things interesting, I'll be adding an additional optional element to the monthly challenges. This month we're holding one of my favourite types of challenge, a bingo grid! Select any line from the grid - vertical, horizontal or diagonal - and create a card using the three elements in your line. As always, keep in mind that the additional challenge is just an optional extra!

PLEASE READ THE CONDITIONS CAREFULLY
BEFORE ENTERING THE CHALLENGE
  • Entries that don't meet the conditions will be deleted from the challenge.
  • Your project must be created during the month of April 2019 and entered into the challenge during the active challenge period. Due to an automated system, late entries cannot be accepted. Each month I will include a re-mastered digital image from my library of freebies as well as a bonus challenge, such as a card sketch, bingo grid, etc. You DO NOT have to use the image or bonus challenge on your project, but you MUST use a Beccy's Place image, either free or purchased, to be eligible for entry.
  • You can enter as many times as you like and you can submit your card to any other challenge you wish.
  • At the end of the month three winners will be randomly chosen to receive a $20.00AU store credit for any digital stamps at Beccy's Place. To redeem the store credit, winners must have a Beccy's Place customer account. (Please note, you do not need an account to enter the challenge. It is acceptable to create an account in the event that you win. Accounts can be closed at any time.)
  • Store credit won during any Beccy's Place challenge is only redeemable for digital stamps.
  • Entries can be uploaded to the challenge from any hosted site including blogs, online galleries, Google photos, etc. If you do not have access to a hosted site, please feel free to email your photos to me and I will add them from the Beccy's Place Guest blog.
  • Beccy's Place designers may enter the monthly challenge but are not eligible to win prizes.

Sunday, March 31

In the idealised world of social media, it's easy to forget that the finished item we're seeing isn't always the first attempt... or even the second, third or fourth! Even those of us who have been practising our craft for a long time have days when things go wrong. I've decided to start collecting some of the "uh oh" moments that happen in my crafty space so that I can share them with you here. Some I've managed to fix, while others have been filed at the very bottom of the trash can!

This first one is an error of judgement. I thought I'd have plenty of room to stamp out a sentiment on a piece of scrap card, but it turned out I didn't leave quite enough space between my sentiment and the last area I cut from. The result was a couple of bites taken out of my oval! I managed to save it by positioning the edge just under the image panel.

I wasn't so lucky with my second mistake! Not enough pressure on the centre of my stamp resulted in a gap in the design. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot I could do to save this one, but happily, card stock has two sides so I just flipped it over and tried again.

Garden Fairy

I've made one last card with the cute Fairy Travels image, this time with no sentiment. I cut an aperture from the front of the card with a circle die then decorated around the edge with some punched flowers and butterflies.

Extra Fries

What's a burger without a side of crispy fries?
Both images have been coloured with Prismacolor pencils on kraft card stock using the no-line colouring technique. I posted a photo sequence of the burger being coloured a few days ago and I also have a tutorial for the basics of no-line colouring using digital stamps in the Everything Papercraft section of the blog. You can find a link at the top of the page or click HERE.

No Line Colouring

Don't you just love a big, juicy, flavoursome burger with sweet tomatoes and drippy barbeque sauce? Mmmmm... yum! Sadly, I can't give you one of those, but I can share a photo sequence of a burger image being coloured on kraft card stock with Prismacolour pencils. That's almost as good, right?
