Are there actually plums in plum pudding? I'll give the brandy sauce a yum, but I'm not so sure about the other part. Now a yule log gets a definite yum with all that chocolate frosting and cake!

Yummy card Beccy.... I finally looked it up.... I thought it was always figgy pudding, then I read plum pudding....Google says in the US it's called Christmas pudding... Any dried fruit can be used I guess. All I know now is "I want some, Please!!!!!" Did someone say Warm Brandy Custard? I'll take double of that Pretty Please... It all sounds good to me...
Really cute card but I'm not going for any of that pudding stuff. Chocolate pudding is all I eat, if I eat fruit pudding I might lose my figure I have worked on all these years.

Plum pudding has always been a tradition in our family (even though it's summer). Grandma's gone now and sadly none of us have been able to match her standards, so we buy ours but it always brings back memories of the year Grandpa lost his one Christmas Day job. Grandma would prepare the pudding well ahead of time, adding extra fruit & love, so that come Christmas Day, all that had to be done was to boil it. Grandpa's one job was to keep the pot boiling and keep topping up the water, while Grandma made magic happen with a traditional hot roast with all the trimmings. Anyway, THAT year, we had all had our main meal and sat excitedly around the table as Grandma grandly cut the twine and started peeling back the calico for the big reveal ... then ... shock horror ... it was a soggy mess! Grandpa had let the pot go off the boil and the water got in. We did enjoy some nice hot custard, whipped cream and icecream for dessert that year and Grandpa never, ever, had to tend the pudding again.

Beautiful, Beccy! A perfect Christmas pudding. Those have never been a tradition in our California family but I did get to enjoy them once when I was an exchange student at Cambridge in England. However, I'm off to do a card using one of the other Christmas traditions which we did follow, the Yule log. See you in a few hours.
Great card, Beccy. I like the embossed white panel and wee bit'o bling. [I've never tasted a plum pudding. Are they as tasty as they look? And I'll bet they smell yummy when baking?]
Hi Kathy. Plum puddings are just like fruit cakes but a little more moist and dense. They usually have some form of alcohol, mostly brandy, poured over the top to help preserve them. My Mum used to make her plum pudding weeks before Christmas. Each day she'd pour a little brandy over the top. Thankfully the alcohol would evaporate by the time we actually ate the pudding, but the flavour of the brandy would still be noticeable.
The puddings are actually boiled or steamed, rather than baked. The batter, which is extremely heavy with dried fruit, is tied inside a pudding bag or piece of muslin fabric, then boiled for hours until it cooks through. Some people then hang it up until Christmas day!
I like plum pudding served hot with cold vanilla custard over the top! That's my favourite.

Y seems to be my most difficult letter. I like to try to think of something different and unique and Y seems to be difficult for me. I like your "yum" idea! And it definitely is a yummy card!

Yum Beccy, one thing I'll miss on the diet this year is a good homemade pud. I'll be making a chocolate coconut milk dessert with some delicious cherries to top it off. Have a good one... Megan
