What a cute image, I love this card. I can't believe that this challenge is up to 'N' already! I started off with good intentions to make a card for each letter and then my hubby whisked me away on a surprise trip to Iceland to celebrate my birthday and I haven't even started on 'A' yet. I've got a lot of catching up to do! xx

I think most people don't know how mistletoe grows, Beccy, but I picked it at Christmas time as a child so am well aware of where to find it. :-D I love your card and I'm off to buy the "Tied Up with String" set because I looked through my entire collection of Beccy's Place images trying to find mistletoe when I was getting ready to make my card for today. None there! I'm delighted to have done "Music" instead but I still want the mistletoe (and all the other marvelous goodies in the set!) :-D

Day 16 - "N"

Today I've used a clever technique called no-line colouring that makes your stamped image look more like a drawing. It works with all colouring mediums, including pencils, which is what I used to colour this little guy. For a basic tutorial click HERE - although it focuses on digital stamping, it's the same process for traditional stamps.

Dies

I probably don't need to explain the operation of cutting dies to the majority of my blog visitors. So let's go beyond cutting beautiful shapes from card stock and talk about other uses for our die collection.

Although not new, one of the simpler uses for your dies is dry embossing. If you have a rubber or foam mat for your die cutting machine, then it's a simple matter of running everything through to emboss the design on your card stock without actually cutting. This is particularly effective with large background dies and latticework. If you don't have a rubber mat you can achieve the same result by pressing the reverse side of your card stock into the die with a ball tool. It's a bit more time consuming but still worth the effort.

Your dies can also do double duty as a stencil. They work great with inks, sprays and paints by acting as a mask to prevent the laying down of colour. You can also use texture paste with them to create a raised area on your journals, cards and scrapbook pages.

Now let's talk about the different types of items that can be cut with dies... most of us stick with the traditional card stock that we're familiar with, but have a go with vellum, mirror card and fabric. Wool felt is a fabulous textile to cut and can be made into awesome decorations at this time of the year.

As with everything, play, practice and experiment! We're sure you'll find some new uses for your dies that you haven't thought of before. Don't forget to share your results with us... the good ones and the learning experiences.

Day 15 - "M"

Mistletoe is one of those iconic plants that spring to mind when I think of Christmas, but I recently realised that I've never actually seen a real piece of mistletoe... I don't even know how it actually grows. Is it a bush, a vine, a shrub?? Needless to say, I immediately googled the answer and was quite surprised by what I discovered. It's well worth having a look.
