From The Owlery

I decided on a simple hexagonal card base for my little owl, cut from purple cardstock to match his hat. I also printed the sentiment purple and added matching rhinestones to the panel for a little bit of sparkle. The charm hanging from the end of his hat was coloured with a silver pen.

Everything Papercraft - Hidden Elements

Hidden elements are literally items that are not visible when you first view a project. Little tags with names and dates that slide down behind a photograph on a scrapbook page, or perhaps a cute image or touching sentiment that is revealed only when part of a card is unfolded. View Finder cards, Secret Message cards, Venetian Blind cards and Wiper cards are all examples of great card folds that hide a little secret. Hidden elements add an interactive, playful ingredient to paper craft projects as well as offering other “spaces” for information or decoration.

Days of Magic

Judy has coloured and fussy cut two of the images from the Hocus Pocus set of digital stamps to create these two magical cards. She layered the images over spectacular patterned paper backgrounds to create eerily beautiful scenes that would be perfect for lovers of fantasy and science fiction.

Got Sticky Bits???

As papercrafters, we inevitably end up with sticky patches on cardstock from excess glue, tape, mediums or even mystery sources! For some adhesives you can simply pick or roll the dry adhesive off with your fingers, taking care not to tear the paper. You can also purchase adhesive erasers and solvents that will take off the sticky residue, and some people even pat Scotch tape over the affected area in an attempt to lift some of the tackiness. Another simple solution is to rub over the sticky area with an embossing buddy, dust it lightly with some cornflour or even sprinkle some ultra-fine embossing powder over the top and then brush the excess away. The idea is that the fine powder will stick to the adhesive removing the tacky feel.

Kathy often uses a white gel pen to add bright highlights to her coloured images, adding a great contrast for the other colours and really making them pop! As you can see from the photos below, she's used the technique on this fun easel card featuring one of the cows from the new Howdy Girl set of digital stamps.

Appearing From The Shadows

I wanted to make the rat wizard look as though he was appearing from the shadows, lit only by the burning candle and glowing orb. To give that illusion, I added a little of the light green to the underside of the rat, as though it's coming from the orb. Then I added some of the yellow to the tips of his ears and along the top portion of his body as if lit from the candle above. I think the contrast between the black background and the light yellows and greens really gives the scene an eerie feel.

Wise Old Owl

Carla has used the owl image from the new Hocus Pocus set of digital stamps to create two fabulous cards with decidedly spooky backgrounds! Her first card features a big, bright full moon with a scattering of stars and planets that also holds a birthday sentiment. The yellow ink is a great contrast for the purple of the wizard's hat. Her second card, also for a birthday, has a fantastic rust-look background with spatters of ink in different hues.

CAS Cards

These quirky ladies lend themselves beautifully to clean and simple card styles. I stamped each one with water-based black ink, coloured with alcohol markers and added an aqua "halo" right around the outside to help tie them in with the base cardstock. A quick sentiment stamped at the bottom and my set of cards was done!

July Challenge

Create a card or paper-craft project using any Beccy's Place image, upload a photo of it to your blog or other hosted site, and submit a direct link below. The challenge runs from now until midnight on the 31st of July 2022 (AEST).

 

DIGITAL PAPER

To keep things interesting, I'll be adding an additional optional element to the monthly challenges. This month I want you to create a card with a fancy fold. You can find a list of card tutorials HERE on the blog. As always, keep in mind that the additional challenge is just an optional extra.

PLEASE READ THE CONDITIONS CAREFULLY

BEFORE ENTERING THE CHALLENGE

• Entries that don't meet the conditions will be deleted from the challenge.
• Your project must be created during the month of July 2022 and entered into the challenge during the active challenge period. Due to an automated system, late entries cannot be accepted.
• Each month I will include a re-mastered digital image from my library of freebies as well as a bonus challenge, such as a card sketch, bingo grid, etc. You DO NOT have to use the image or bonus challenge on your project, but you MUST use a Beccy's Place image, either free or purchased, to be eligible for entry.
• You can enter as many times as you like and you can submit your card to any other challenge you wish.
• At the end of the month three different random winners will be chosen to receive a $20.00AU store credit for any digital stamps at Beccy's Place. To redeem the store credit, winners must have a Beccy's Place customer account. (Please note, you do not need an account to enter the challenge. It is acceptable to create an account in the event that you win. Accounts can be closed at any time.)
• Store credit won during any Beccy's Place challenge is only redeemable for digital stamps.
• Entries can be uploaded to the challenge from any hosted site including blogs, online galleries, Google photos, etc. If you do not have access to a hosted site, please feel free to email your photos to me and I will add them from the Beccy's Place Guest blog.
• Beccy's Place designers may enter the monthly challenge but are not eligible to win prizes.
