Colouring Project - day two

The next digital image I chose for my framed floral project is the sweetpea from the Garden Seed set. Now that it's all coloured, I wish I had chosen pink or maybe a peachy orange instead of the purple, I think it would have been a little more striking.

My negative colouring project from last week has finally resulted in a card!  I decided to start with the sweet pea image, and matched it with some pretty blue and very soft yellow paper, which is actually flocked with little flowers.

Negative Colouring

I've been in the mood for colouring lately, but didn't really feel like going through the motions of choosing colours and making sure I had coordinating papers to create cards, etc. etc.  To get my fix, I opted for some negative colouring instead, which is where you colour the highlights in the image rather than the shadows.  I have a little tutorial HERE if anyone is interested in having a go.

EDIT:  The images in this post are digitals, printed on dark brown cardstock with black ink and then coloured over with white pencils.  You could use any colour cardstock as long as there is enough contrast between the colour you choose and your white pencil.

A close up of the poppies.  As you can see, I printed these in two sizes for a bit of variation.  It was a lot easier colouring the larger image because I had more room to work with, but on the down side there was a lot more colouring to do!

After colouring the images, I sprayed them with a light coat of matt sealant to prevent the soft white pencil from smudging.  I'm hoping to use them on some cards during the week.

Just a quick card share from me today.  I made this using my Sweetpeas image coloured with distress markers on watercolour paper.  I layered it up with pretty purples and some striped patterned paper then added an organza bow.

 

New Release: Garden Seed Set

It's a little bit of a sad post for me today... these are the final cards from the wonderful and talented Designers I have been working with for the past six months.  I have enjoyed all their creations and I know they have provided some wonderful inspiration to my readers over the last half year.  I'm sure these last few cards will be just as well received as all their previous work.  Enjoy!

New Rubber Stamps

The lovely ladies over at Sparkle N Sprinkle have been busy producing lots of new rubber stamps that are perfect for seasonal cards, birthdays and Mother's Day.  I happen to know there's a sale going on over there at the moment on selected rubber stamps, so it's a perfect time to spoil yourself!

Tutorial - Centre Step Cards

My good friend Penny taught me how to make these wonderful centre step cards that stand up beautifully for display.  You can make these cards in lots of different shapes and sizes by altering the measurements and fold placements, but I'm going to show you using the same measurements that Penny showed me.

CLICK THE IMAGE TO ENLARGE

1. Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 12" x 6".  Using the template (above) measure and mark your folding and cutting lines.

2. Use a craft knife or a trimmer to cut along the cut lines.  Score along each of the fold lines. 

3. Use the fold guide to fold along all the score lines you made earlier.

4.  All that's left now is the embellishing!  I adhered my main image on the centre panel then added some co-ordinating patterned paper on the two side panels and across the bottom.  Some strips of punched white card, a few adhesive pearls and a sentiment stamp finished it all off.  

May Challenge

May is the month for celebrating everything about having or being a Mother.  The challenge is to create a card or project using any one of my flower images and embellishing it with your mother's favourite colours.  The card can be for any occasion and can feature any sentiment you wish, not just Mother's Day.

At the end of the month a random winner will be chosen to receive three images of their choice from my online store.  I will also select a Guest Designer for the month of June from amongst those who enter the challenge.  So come join the fun!

Sweet Peas

The latest design in store is this little sprig of sweet pea flowers, which are a surprisingly popular blossom with many of you requesting them.  I remember these lovely little flowers from my Grandmother's garden, to me they've always seemed wonderfully old fashioned and delicate.

Here is Vivien's beautiful card.  As you can see, she coloured the flowers in a lovely soft shade of lavender and embellished with a co-ordinating card mat and some large diecut swirls.  Stop by Viv's blog to see more of her gorgeous creations as well as her adorable little grandsons!
