Scoreboard Embossing

I used a score board to add diagonal, embossed lines to the background of my card, then added tiny rhinestones to the intersection of each line. It's a fun and effective way to add a little texture without needing an embossing machine and folders.

Double Embossing

Double embossing is a great way to get extra oomph from your embossing folders. Not only do you get the impression from the folder, but you can also add a great texture and colour with your embossing powders. There are two ways to do this technique, the first is to swipe a versa mark ink pad over the embossing folder before running the cardstock through your machine, then sprinkling it with powder and heat setting. Or, you can dry emboss the cardstock first, swipe the ink pad over the raised sections of your cardstock, then sprinkle it with powder and heat set. Try both methods to see the difference!

Day 6 - "E"

I've been embossing! I used the same folder for both cards, but added some heat embossing to the purple one to really lift the design. Both have large poinsettia die cut embellishments and a simple strip of cardstock stamped with a sentiment.

Day 2 - Embossing

Embossing is one of those techniques that gives you lots of bang for your buck.  It's relatively easy to do and adds great texture and dimension to your work.  Embossing can be done either by the heat technique, which involves heating and melting embossing powder onto cardstock, or by the dry technique, where patterns and shapes are pressed into the card.  You can combine the two techniques, as I did today, by adding Versamark ink directly onto the embossing folder with a brayer, embossing the cardstock to transfer the ink and then adding some embossing powder and heating it with a heat gun.

Day 9 - Embossing

Embossing is quick and easy and adds lots of great texture and dimension to your paper craft projects.  For my card, I've used heat embossing for the bird and sentiment, and dry embossing to add the pattern in the background.

Day 24 - Emboss till you Drop!

There are two types of embossing - dry embossing and heat embossing.  Dry embossing can be done in a variety of ways, the most popular being the use of embossing folders and pressure to press a design into the cardstock.  Heat embossing generally involves the application of a powder that is heated until it melts leaving a polymer coating on the paper.

 

The card I made today uses both types of embossing.  Firstly, I dry embossed my piece of card with the Christmas words and snowman, then swiped a Versamark pad over the card laying down the ink on the raised portion of the design.  I added the embossing powder, heated the card and voila! my double embossing was done.

Challenge Card

 

Our challenge at Card Camp last week was to create a card using three die cuts and an embossing folder.  I chose a Spellbinders circle die and two dies from the Spellbinders Iron Motifs set as well as a Sizzix embossing folder.  The sentiment is from Stampin' Up and the image is by Flourishes, which I stamped, heat embossed and coloured with my distress markers.

Technique Class - Dry Embossing

The vast majority of card makers and paper artists have dry embossed before, or at least know the process and are able to name a couple of different machines that get the job done.   For those new to card making, dry embossing is simply the technique whereby a pattern is pressed into a piece of paper or cardstock to give a textured impression.

 

Embossing folders are the most common way to dry emboss paper and cardstock.  There are numerous companies that produce these folders and between them just about every major holiday and theme is covered.

You can also add texture to your cardstock by embossing with score lines.  I like to emboss on the diagonal, then flip the cardstock over and emboss the other way.  It gives an interesting diamond shaped pattern with embossed and debossed lines.
