New Release: Build A Wreath Set

I love wreaths, whether they are hanging on the door at Christmastime or decorating the front of a pretty birthday card, I think they are fabulous! This set is comprised of individual elements that can be mixed and matched, resized and flipped to create wreaths for just about every occasion.

Start with one of the four bases and build on it by adding leaves, flowers, berries and a bow. Complete the picture with one of the coordinating sentiments for a truly unique creation.

Don't feel like colouring? No problem! The set also contains full coloured versions of each individual element, all saved as .png files, for easy, quick and unique image construction.

But wait... there's more! (sorry, I couldn't resist)
The set also contains these four, full-coloured and fully constructed wreaths for when you're really in a hurry and need a wreath right away!

Have a look at the fabulous projects that some of my designers have been working on. As you can see, the set is very versatile and has lots of possible combinations... you become the artist!

A.J. created these four beautiful cards using each of the four base wreaths in the set and matching them with the sentiments.

Judy used the gnarled wreath and decorated it with the flowers, leaves and ribbon bow, then mounted the completed image on a pretty embossed background.

Karin created two mixed media cards using different elements from the set. She kept her second card nice and simple and added a computer generated sentiment of her own.

Social Media

One of the New Year's Resolutions I set myself in January was to get more savvy with social media. Who knew what a big task that would be?! I've been hash tagging and tweeting, liking and posting like a teenager... unfortunately I don't have the brain of a teenager, so the learning process has been loooooong and painful!

Yesterday I finally made my first post on Instagram, which seems like a simple enough service, even for me... but I guess time will tell. For those of you who are familiar with social media, or who are also trying to keep up with the teenagers, you can find me here:

https://www.instagram.com/beccysplace/

I'll do my best to instagram something (is that a verb??) on a regular basis. Mostly photos of whatever I'm working on, or perhaps products I like or things that catch my eye. My live-in teenagers assure me that it's supposed to be snippets of life in picture form... "Mum, don't overthink it!" they say. But I don't think I'm capable of over-thinking anything these days!

Tutorial - Flag Fold Cards

I have a fabulous display card to share with you today, featuring five little flags that project from the centre of the card, giving it it's name. Despite how it looks, it's not too difficult to create and will fold up nicely for posting in a standard envelope.

1. You'll need one piece of heavy patterned paper measuring 10" long x 6" high, one piece of cardstock measuring 8" long x 6" high, and five 2" squares of cardstock for the flags. Extra patterned paper and embellishments will be needed for decoration once the base is created.

2. Score the piece of cardstock and fold in half to form a 6" x 4" card. Set aside.

3. Place the patterned paper horizontally on your scoreboard and score at 2", 3", 4", 5", 6", 7" and 8".

4. Concertina fold the card, starting and ending with valley folds. You should have three peaks in the centre of the paper and a 2" flat section on each side. Refer to the photo below.

5. Apply adhesive on the back of the 2" flat sections on either side of the patterned paper. DO NOT apply any adhesive to the concertina section in the middle.

6. Line up the adhesive ends of the patterned paper with the sides of the card blank and press firmly in place. The concertina section should be free to fold and unfold as you open and close the card. Set aside.

7. It's easier to decorate the "flags" at this point rather than after you have secured them to the card. Add some patterned paper, stamps, images and other embellishments as desired. Keep in mind that any decorations you add should be flat as they will be included in the folds of the card.

8. Apply adhesive to the half of the "flag" that will attach to the card. Double check before you add any glues or tapes to make sure you're applying it to the correct side.

9. Start by adhering the centre "flag" halfway up the middle fold. I used a centring ruler to make sure I placed it correctly.

10. Now adhere two flags on the first fold, one flush with the top of the card, and one flush with the bottom.

11. Apply the last two flags on the last fold, one flush with the top of the card and one flush with the bottom.

12. Decorate the front of the card as desired. I used a digital image, coloured with copic markers, some ribbon and patterned paper. The card is quite bulky when complete, so you might like to create a belly band or ribbon tie to hold it closed.

I think this fold would be fabulous for Christmas, decorated with lots of different sized snowflakes, glitter and snowmen. I hope you'll give it a try!

Pencils, Pencils, Pencils...

If you've been following along in the last couple of weeks, you'll know that I've been reacquainting myself with my coloured pencils... well, that's not entirely true... it's more a case of being distracted by them while trying to clean up!

But I have evidence to show that I'm not the only one who has been playing with pencils, take a look at what Petra's up to. She's enjoying the last warm days of summer out on the patio with some images and her coloured pencils.

Meanwhile, I've been experimenting with one of the "metallic" colours in my collection to see how it looks on paper. Although it's not overly shiny, it does have a metallic look that can be accentuated with a variation in the amount of pressure you apply. The lighter you press on the pencil, the shinier the highlight becomes.

Christmas Bells

Here's a little sneak peek at what some of my designers have been doing with the soon-to-be-released "Christmas Bells" stamps.

From Start To Finish

When I'm designing stamps, I generally begin with a rough drawing in my sketch book, but as you can see, the finished image doesn't always turn out exactly like the initial design.

Pencils are a fabulous medium for card makers, you can get so many variations just by adjusting the pressure with which you apply the colour. I completed all these leaves with just three pencils - black, dark green and spring green (935, 908 & 913).

This image is one of the stamps from the "Christmas Bells" set, due for release on the 1st of October. I didn't colour the bell because I have other plans for it... but that's a card for another day!

Coming Soon...

One of the new October releases at Beccy's Place is a digital set called "Build-A-Wreath". As the name implies, you can use all the different elements in the set to build wreaths for whatever occasion you wish. As a little bonus, the set also comes with these four pre-built and pre-coloured images to get you started.

These sneak peeks from my designers give you even more idea of the versatility of the "Build-A-Wreath" digital stamp set. All of the individual elements have been saved as .png files, which means they have a transparent background for clean and simple merging. That feature, combined with the ability for resizing and flipping, means there is an almost endless array of possible configurations you can discover.
