Day 9 - "H"

I was so pleased with the way the red holly looked against the black background that I decided to colour another branch in different shades of green. I'm really happy with both, but I think the red is still my favourite.

YOUR TURN: Create a card or papercraft project using the letter "H" as your prompt.

Day 18 - "P"

I created a printed background for my holly with one of the sentiments from the Holly Days set of digital stamps. Since the holly is a png file, I was able to layer it directly on top of the words before printing in a single layer. After colouring the holly, I added a shadow with grey marker to the right and bottom side of the image, which is what gives it that 3D appearance.

Day 9 - "H" (and a tutorial)

I love how wonderful holly looks against a black background. The combination of red, green, black and white is so striking and makes a fabulous Christmas card. I've added a quick tutorial at the bottom of this post for anyone who'd like to have a go at creating a similar card.

YOUR TURN: Create a card or papercraft project using the letter "H" as your prompt.

INSPIRATION WORDS:
holly, ho ho ho, happy, holiday, Heaven, hot chocolate, hope, handbag card, heat embossing, herringbone technique, honeycomb paper, hexagons, hot glue, heliotrope, harvest gold, hookers green, hunters green

Digital Stamps:

1. Print two of the holly images, one smaller than the other and mirrored so that it doesn't look too repetitive, then colour with your choice of medium.

2. Colour around the images with a black marker, then use a pair of small, sharp scissors to fussy cut.

3. Decide how you would like to arrange the holly stems on your card. I layered the larger one over the top of the small one. As you can see, some of the top image covers one of the leaves and some berries, which I cut off and set aside.

4. Create a card base with half a piece of red, A4 cardstock, scored and folded. Add a piece of gold card to the centre front and a piece of black card over the top. Once you're happy with the position of the holly, secure the smaller piece to the card base with glue.

5. For a little extra dimension, add some foam tape or chipboard to the back of the large holly and secure to the card front, leaving a little of the stem hanging over the top of the card. Trim the excess away with scissors.

6. Add a sentiment on a piece of white cardstock, framed with gold, then secure the leaf and berries you removed in step 3. I added them over the top of the sentiment flag, but you can put them where you think they look best.

7. Apply a liberal coat (or two) of Crystal Lacquer, Glossy Accents, Kindy Glitz or Wink of Stella to each of the holly berries.

Day 30 - Do What You Love

Today marks the end of our tenth Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge, and if that doesn't deserve a round of applause, I don't know what does! A huge Thank You to all of you, and particularly to those who have been with me from the very beginning, it's been such a joy to spend this extra special month with you over the past decade. As I've said in previous years, this is the challenge I most look forward to as it kick starts the Christmas season for me. I really enjoy all the wonderful creations that are added to the gallery, the fabulous images and wonderful ideas... but my most favourite part is the feeling of being connected to a larger community of crafters. Reading the funny, kind, sweet and thoughtful comments that are left here and on other blogs is wonderfully heart-warming and reminds me that there is still an abundance of kindness in the world.

YOUR TURN: Create a card or papercraft project that brings you joy.

Carla's Holly Days

Carla is sharing two festive cards with us today featuring images from the Holly Days set of digital stamps. Her first card has a fantastic stencilled background that contrasts perfectly with the single stem of holly she added. She has kept to a green, red and white colour scheme with both cards, which, of course, are colours we generally associate with Christmas.

Christmas Projects

Cynthia has been busy creating these fabulous Christmas projects using the Holly Days set of digital stamps combined with festive papers and sparkly embellishments.

For her second card, she used the pre-coloured images to make her own unique piece of patterned paper, then added a large sentiment matted on red cardstock.

Cynthia's final project is this awesome, mixed media bookmark. How fabulous would this look tied to a book-themed gift or slipped into a stocking or even used as a place marker on the Christmas table?
