In this class, you'll be creating two bright and pretty cards with delicate butterflies and eye-catching pops of red! You'll find a cutting guide and supply list below, as well as the step-by-step instructions to help you complete your cards. Please leave any questions or concerns in the comment section of this post and I'll get back to you as soon as I've finished crafting! 😉

Note: The cake images can be cut with Just Desserts cutting dies.
- Just Desserts card making kit
- one white A5 card base - tent fold
- one pink (or green if you prefer) 13.5cm x 13.5cm card base
- 13cm x 13cm white cardstock
- one white cardstock circle approx. 6cm diameter
- one pink (or green) cardstock circle approx. 6.5cm diameter with scalloped edge, if desired
- ten 10.5cm x 1.5cm pink (or green) cardstock strips
- embossing folder and embossing machine
- scissors for fussy cutting
- paper trimmer
- adhesives - glue, double-sided tape, foam tape
- self-adhesive rhinestones, pearls, or liquid pearls if desired
CARD A
1. Use your favourite embossing folder to add a design to the 13cm x 13cm white cardstock, then secure it to the centre of your card base.
2. Trim both pieces of patterned paper to 10cm x 10cm, reserving the larger off cuts for the next card. Secure the spotted paper to the upper right side of the card, about 1cm from the top and side edge, and the plaid paper to the lower left hand side, about 1cm from the bottom and side edge.
3. Adhere your two cardstock circles together and secure to the centre of the plaid paper.
4. Adhere the medium flower to the right-hand-side of the circle at about 4pm (imagine your circles are a clock face, this is the position where "4" would sit).
5. Glue the sentiment strip over the centre of the flower, taking the right hand edge all the way to the edge of the embossed cardstock. Ensure your sentiment is parallel with the top and bottom edges of your card.
6. Secure the small flower behind the large flower with glue.
7. Adhere to the left side of the circle, so the large flower just covers the edge of the sentiment and the small flower sits at around 9pm. (NOTE: don't worry about being too exact with the placement - remember the instructions are only meant to be a guide)
8. Adere the two strawberries together so they are on slightly different angles, but with their tops facing the same way. Use foam tape to secure them below the sentiment, slightly over the large flower. Add your butterfly in the white space above the sentiment.
(HINT: bend the wings of your butterfly slightly upward from the centre. Apply a thin line of glue down the middle of the butterfly and then two large drops of glue on each wing. Place the butterfly gently onto your card, pressing ONLY the middle section so it's flat. As the drops of glue dry, they will hold the wings slighly away from the card, giving some nice dimension without the large pieces of foam tape)
9. Finish the card with some red, green, or pink rhinestones, pearls or liquid mediums.
CARD B
1. Trim the patterned paper offcuts from Card A into 10.5cm x 1cm strips (you should end up with at least five of each design for a total of ten paper strips). Adhere the paper to the cardstock strips, ignoring any differences in length.
2. Place your card base on the desk in front of you, with the centre fold on the left-hand side. Choose one of the strips and secure it to the lower right corner of your card, ensuring the paper reaches the edge, or just over.
NOTE: With this technique, I find it easiest to add a glue to the card base, then place the strip over the top. This helps prevent the use of too much glue and ending up with a sticky mess!
3. Add two more strips beside the first one, keeping them parrallel and evenly spaced (2 - 3mm apart).
4. Turn your card over and use a pair of sharp scissors or a trimmer to remove the excess. Save the off cuts.
5. Starting at the top of the last strip you placed, and keeping the next strip inside the edge of the card, add another three strips. See photos for placement.
6. Use the trimmings to fill the corner position, keeping the strips evenly spaced and following the same pattern placement as the first three. Again, trim the excess.
7. Add three final strips in the same way as previously, trimming any excess with sharp scissors or a trimmer.
8. Add a little glue or tape to the left-hand edge of your sentiment panel and secure it behind the cake image.
9. Secure one of the medium sized flowers to the back of the cake and sentiment so the centre is still visible. Add another medium flower on the left-hand side of the cake, just above the leaf, and a small flower below that, just between the two leaves. You should be able to see the centre of each flower.
10. Secure the smaller strawberry just over the end of the medium-sized strawberry so they are facing different directions. The "shine" should be toward the top of both berries. Secure the small flower behind the strawberries to create a little cluster of embellishments.
11. Use foam tape to adhere the cluster at the lower right corner of the cake, just over the sentiment panel but not covering any of the words.
12. Adhere a little butterfly just over the edge of the paper strip, mostly on the white background. Finish the card with rhinestones, pearls, or some shimmer medium if desired.
