Tutorial - Triangle Trifold Card

Triangle Trifold cards fold to a standard size and shape, but twist out as they're opened to reveal a longer than usual card with plenty of space for people to add personal messages. Despite the extra length, they can still be created from a single sheet of A4 cardstock.

1. Start with two pieces of cardstock measuring 101/4" x 4".  Place each one horizontally on your scoreboard and score at 51/2".

2. Working on the short side of the cardstock, score a line starting 3/4" from the first score line, down to the bottom corner. (If you have an angled attachment for your scoreboard, simply place the top edge along the 45 degree angle and score from the bottom corner to the top edge.) Repeat for the second piece of cardstock, remembering to work on the short side.

3. Fold along the score lines. Spin one piece of cardstock 180 degrees so that the triangle is at the top. See the photos below.

4. Add glue or strong double sided tape to one of the large rectangles and secure the two pieces of cardstock together to form the card base.

5. To decorate the outside, you'll need a 33/4" x 33/4" piece of contrasting cardstock, cut diagonally in half; a 31/2" x 31/2" piece of patterned paper, cut diagonally in half; and a 3" x 3" image (mounted on cardstock, if desired).

6. Secure the triangles to the card base first, then secure the image to the top triangle.

7. If desired, cut two 5/8" x 37/8" pieces of cardstock and two 1/2" x 33/4" pieces of patterned paper to decorate the sides of the card. See below.

8. As you open the card, you'll notice the image flips to the side, which means the open orientation of the card will be vertical. (If desired, decorate the inside of the card with a 53/8" x 37/8" piece of cardstock and a 51/4" x 33/4" piece of patterned paper.)

9. Complete the card by adding embellishments to the front as desired.

First I would like to say thank you for all your inspiration! When I need a little mojo I always come to your blog. I am trying the triangle trifold card and I do have a question. I Cut the card base, scored it and adhered it together. However the directions say to cut a piece of cardstock 4 3/4" 4 3/4 then patterned paper at 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 however the cardstock it too large to fit on the triangles on top. Is this a typo or did I make a mistake? I love your card and I'd like to create it I just don't know if I did it right? I appreciate it :)

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry Joani! You're right, it's definitely a typo. It should be 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" for the cardstock and 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" for the patterned paper. Thanks so much for letting me know. I've updated the post with the correct measurements.
Cheers,
Beccy
