Tutorial - Teardrop Trifold Card

Teardrop cards are so named because part of the card is shaped like a drop of water or a tear.  There are several ways to make these cards, but today I'm going to show you the trifold version, which is fairly quick and easy to do.

Template

1.  Begin with a piece of cardstock measuring 12" x 6".  Score and fold at 4" and 8" creating a trifold card.  (tip: when I make trifold cards, I generally remove a thin slither from the right hand edge so the card sits better when folded.)

2.  Using the template, cut a teardrop shape from the left hand panel of your card.  You've now created the base of your teardrop card... I told you it was quick and easy!

3.  To decorate the card, use the template to mark and cut some patterned paper for the front.

4.  Add a rectangular piece of patterned paper measuring 4" x 6", and a handcoloured image.  See the photos below to see how they all fit together.  (tip: if you cut your patterned paper about 1/4" smaller than the specified size you will end up with a nice little border around the edges.)

If you're stamping directly on to the patterned paper, make sure you do it before you adhere everything together so that you end up with a nice crisp image... and if you make a mistake it's much easier just to cut another piece of paper!

Is it because I have a Mac, that I can't figure out where the 4 x 6 template for a teardrop is?

Hi Christine,
I don't think it makes any difference what computer you're using, you should be able to see all the photos regardless. The template is the second photo in the tutorial, right under the photo of the actual card. It's a very simple cut so there aren't too many lines, which is probably why it doesn't look like much.
The finished card in this tutorial will fold up to 4" x 6", but you need to start with a 12" x 6" piece of cardstock because it's a trifold. If you don't want three sections simply start with an 8"x6" piece of cardstock and leave off the panel on the right hand side. You'll end up with a single fold, 4"x6" card.
Good luck Christine.
Cheers,
Beccy

Thanks for the card,I am currently making one. Does the tied string go through all 3 layers?

Beccy said...

Hi Microshell. I don't think the string goes through any of the layers, it's just a bow that I glued on for decoration.
Cheers,
Beccy
