Card Making Classes - Day 10

One stamp, three ways.
This has been my favourite challenge during the two weeks of class, I'm always surprised by how the ideas start to flow when you need to come up with three ways to use one stamp.

As a background.

Embossed in clear and white on a strip of red card stock.

Embossed three times in gold, cut out and layered together.

Card Making Classes - Day 9

Today was all about adding texture.  Most of the time I add texture to my cards with embossing or the use of mediums such as snowtex and liquid pearls, but this time around I decided to try one of the suggestions from class... paper pleating.  I'd like to say it was a success from the moment I sat down at my desk, but alas, it took at least five tries (yep, ya' read that right - FIVE) to actually come up with something I liked.

Card Making Classes - Day 8

Day 8 of the Clean and Simple Card Making class was all about techniques.  We were shown a couple of videos featuring different stamping techniques as well as some PDFs that had full instructions for different things to do with your stamps and inks.  For my homework project I decided to try the plaid stamping, which was time consuming but strangely satisfying.  The finished product looked to me like a piece of patterned paper, except for the little bits where I didn't quite line my stamp up as closely as I should have!

Card Making Classes - Bonus Day 1

The online card classes I'm taking generally run Monday to Friday - probably so we have the weekend to catch up - but there was a bonus class on Saturday complete with homework!  This lesson was about using die cuts to create simple cards.  We could use them in any way we wanted so I used a Labels 14 die to cut a window that frames a cute little snowman scene.

Card Making Classes - Day 5

The Day 5 class with Jennifer was all about getting the most out of your stamps.  We were challenged to use the same stamp in three different ways, which seemed awfully difficult before I started but once I got going all these different ideas kept popping into my head!

Card Making Classes - Day 4

Today was all about negative space... and lots of it!

Card Making Classes - Day 3

Day 3 of the Clean and Simple class was all about stamping techniques and the various effects you can achieve with your stamps and ink pads.  Our homework was to create a card using a stamping technique, so I chose the lesson on gradient stamping to create the two cards below.

Card Making Classes Day 2

Today's homework was to create a one-layer card... which I discovered was much more of a challenge than it seems.  I used a deckle rectangle die to emboss the front of the card (without cutting) and then stamped the poinsettia in two colours and added a sentiment.  Not muct to it, but it was a lot more difficult than I thought.  I actually tossed the first one I made in the bin... with one layer there's no where to hide your mistakes!

Card Making Classes

My friend Penny has done a couple of the online card making classes given by Jennifer McGuire and thoroughly enjoyed them.  I signed up for Clean and Simple 2, which started a couple of days ago and is basically the art of simple, well designed cards that feature lots of stamping.  Our day one project was to make a card inspired by one of the sketches they posted on the lesson plan, and this is the card I came up with.

I've decided to use the class to get a good head start on my Christmas cards... yes, I realise it's only January but I truly need a BIG head start!  I really enjoyed using the techniques explained in the class and had a wonderful time rediscovering some of the old stamps that have been hiding in my stash for years!
