Tutorial - Pop Out Gatefold Card

Quick and easy, folds flat for postage and looks awesome on display... these cards have it all! It's also quite simple to alter the size of the finished card, since it's basically a gatefold with a couple of extra score lines in the centre. You can make yours large enough to hold your favourite images with plenty of space for sentiments and handwritten messages.

1. Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 10" x 6". Place it horizontally on your score board and score at 21/2", 41/2", 51/2" and 71/2". Fold along each score line, starting with a valley fold, then a mountain fold, another mountain and finish with a valley.

2. Now all you have to do is decorate! Cut four pieces of mirror cardstock measuring 21/4"x 53/4", two pieces measuring 13/4" x 53/4" and one piece measuring 3/4" x 53/4". Additionally, you'll need four pieces of patterned paper measuring 2"x 51/2", two pieces measuring 11/2" x 51/2" and one piece measuring 1/2" x 51/2".

(NOTE: For a basic card, you'll only need four pieces of patterned paper measuring 21/4"x 53/4", two pieces measuring 13/4" x 53/4" and one piece measuring 3/4" x 53/4".)

3. Mat the patterned paper to the mirror cardstock leaving a small border around each piece. Adhere the double mats to each of the inner sections of the card, as shown in the photo below.

4. The last two double mats are adhered to the front of the two end pieces, which will form the front of your card.

5. The centre panel on the inside of the card is the section which "pops out" when the card is on display. This is the area where you want to secure your images or sentiments, taking care to keep the adhesive to the 1" centre panel only.

6. Ensure your embellishments are no wider than the first and last score lines, which is where the card will close. For reference, my finished card will be 5" wide, meaning that my embellishments and sentiments should be less than 5" across.

7. Secure the embellishments to the centre panel with glue or double-sided tape.

8. Decorate the front of the card as desired. I chose to make a belly band embellished with another of the sea turtles from the Reef Travellers set.
