Day 15 - Extending Your Stamps (tutorial)

Not everyone has a huge collection of stamps for creating holiday cards and sometimes "making do" is necessary.  Have a look through your collection of stamps and try to think of ways you can use what you already have to create holiday themed cards.  Perhaps you can add a little cardstock Santa hat on animals or teddy bears, or colour a beautiful flower bouquet in traditional Christmas colours, or stamp multiple candles for a Hanukkah greeting.

I used two leaf stamps from my stamp collection, some white embossing powder and pink scrapbooking paper to create these three dimensional poinsettia cards.

YOUR TURN: Experiment with your non-holiday stamps to create a holiday card.
Upload your creation here.

Stamp the leaves onto pink paper with clear versa mark ink and heat emboss with white embossing powder.  Cut out each leaf with a small pair of scissors.

Shape each leaf by rubbing a ball tool gently over the back until the leaf bends into a cup shape.  Now they're ready to use on your project!

Your cards are beautiful Beccy. I love that you used the white embossing powder on the leaves. Very effective. Loving the background embossing too. Super tutorial.

Very pretty! I do this sometimes - use a non-Christmas stamp for a Christmas card. Sometimes I have to if the challenge calls for a particular brand of stamp and I don't have a festive one. Just add a Santa hat to one of my many cat stamps! I do it for Halloween cards too - just add a witch's hat - and make the kitty black! Your poinsettia looks beautiful!

First of all I was struck by the utterly gorgeous colours of your flowers. Just beautiful!
But the stretching stamps tips are incredibly useful too! I've only been stamping a year, so my collection is not very big yet, but I've been getting character stamps, and this post made me realise how useful and versatile other stamps like flowers and leaves can be. Thank you, I found this extremely useful and inspiring. x

Thanks for the tutorial and encouraging us all to think outside the box. It is so easy just to see a stamp as is.

Gorgeous cards Beccy! I would have never guessed these were leaf stamps used to create your stunning poinsettias. Thanks so much for the tutorial and tip to use what you already have. I don't know about anyone else but I'm always quick to go out and buy something new. Now my creative juices are really flowing just thinking about what I already have and different ways to use them. Thanks again!
