Autumn Card

Autumn is definitely in the air in our part of Queensland, with beautiful cool nights and glorious warm days.  It's my favourite season of the year with gorgeous colours, wonderful temperatures, and delicious autumn soups and stews, so I was thrilled when the challenge over at Card Camp was to create a Fall inspired card.  I used a gorgeous set from Stampin' Up called Cherish Friendship, which I stamped on watercolour paper and coloured with Distress markers.  I finished the card with some hemp twine and a couple of leaf charms from my stash.

Tandem Bicycle

I have some more great cards from the designers, this time using the tandem bicycle image from the Bicycle Set.  Enjoy!

Some More Inspiration

This boy's bike is part of the larger "Bicycle" set of digital images available in my online store.  It can be purchased separately or in a set along with two other bikes and co-ordinating sentiments.  My lovely designers have a few more example cards to show you this week using these images.

Tutorial - Teardrop Trifold Card

Teardrop cards are so named because part of the card is shaped like a drop of water or a tear.  There are several ways to make these cards, but today I'm going to show you the trifold version, which is fairly quick and easy to do.

Template

1.  Begin with a piece of cardstock measuring 12" x 6".  Score and fold at 4" and 8" creating a trifold card.  (tip: when I make trifold cards, I generally remove a thin slither from the right hand edge so the card sits better when folded.)

2.  Using the template, cut a teardrop shape from the left hand panel of your card.  You've now created the base of your teardrop card... I told you it was quick and easy!

3.  To decorate the card, use the template to mark and cut some patterned paper for the front.

4.  Add a rectangular piece of patterned paper measuring 4" x 6", and a handcoloured image.  See the photos below to see how they all fit together.  (tip: if you cut your patterned paper about 1/4" smaller than the specified size you will end up with a nice little border around the edges.)

If you're stamping directly on to the patterned paper, make sure you do it before you adhere everything together so that you end up with a nice crisp image... and if you make a mistake it's much easier just to cut another piece of paper!

Bicycle Set

I'm very excited to show you my first co-ordinated digital image set consisting of three images with matching sentiments.  You can purchase this set in its entirety or you can buy each of the images and sentiments separately.  The designs all come as high quality 300dpi digital images in both black and white line drawings as well as full colour images ready to print and use.

My wonderful new design team have been hard at work using the Bicycle Set to create these gorgeous cards to help inspire you and get those creative juices flowing.  I'll have more examples from them over the next couple of weeks, so please stop by often to see what they are up to.

Annie used the boys bike and the blossom bicycle on her country inspired card.  The "adventure" sentiment is also from the Bicycle Set.  Visit Annie's Blog to see more of her beautiful work.

Carla created these two gorgeous cards using pretty soft colours, lacey borders and lovely patterned papers.  She used both the tandem bicycle and the blossom bicycle images along with two of the sentiments from the set.  Stop by Carla's blog for lots more inspiration.

This beautiful card was created by Emily using the Blossom Bicycle image and a matching sentiment.  She coloured the image in very similar colours to the background paper for a wonderful cohesive result.  You can see more of Emily's cards and projects on her blog.

This is the very last card from the lovely Eret, whose time on my design team has sadly come to an end.  Thank you for six wonderful months of gorgeous cards and projects Eret, we'll miss you!  Please make sure you bookmark Eret's blog or become a follower so you don't miss out on any of her work.

Malin created her beautiful card also using the blossom bicycle image.  She teamed it up with some really cute patterned paper and a gorgeous flower as well as a matching sentiment from the Bicycle Set.  There are lots of other beautiful cards and projects on Malin's blog so make sure you stop by for a visit.

This beautiful card was designed by Marianne using the blossom bicycle image and the "adventure" sentiment, which she enlarged to fit almost the entire length of the bike... one of the many advantages of digital images is the ability to alter the size and shape of the image.  You can see more beautiful cards and crafty projects on Marianne's blog.

Pauline used the tandem bicycle image for her card this week.  She coloured the image in shades of pink, red and green and teamed it up with some wonderful checked paper.  A handstitched border finished the design nicely.  Visit Pauline's blog to see more of her beautiful work.

Candy is one of our Guest Designers for the month of April.  She created this fabulous, funky card using lots of bright, bold colours and some gorgeous flowers and die cut foliage.  She also changed the colours of the sentiments so they would tie in nicely with the rest of her card.  There are lots of other wonderful projects to see on Candy's blog.

The second guest designer for this month is Shirl.  She decided on gorgeous yellow roses for her card and added the sentiment on a piece of matching cardstock.  She also used the Blossom Bicycle image, which seems to be the most popular among the designers.  Visit Shirl's blog for more of her great cards and projects.

Tutorial: Peek A Boo Card

It's been a while since I posted a card fold technique and I promised the next tutorial I did would be for a peek-a-boo card.  These are wonderful cards that have a sliding section that moves when you open and close them.  They're not easy to make though and require careful measuring, cutting, folding and stamping to produce a smooth sliding movement with everything lined up correctly.

1.  Start with two pieces of light coloured cardstock, one measuring 51/2" x 11" and the other measuring 51/2" x 61/8".  (The reason for using light coloured cardstock is that you are going to be stamping straight on to it.  Other tutorials add little pieces of stamped cardstock but I found this to be the easiest way to keep the card sliding smoothly.)

2.  Lay the long sheet of cardstock horizontally on your score board and score at 31/2" and again at 7".

3. Lay the shorter piece, which will be the card front, horizontally on your score board and score at 41/4".

4.  Fold the cardstock along each score line as shown below.  You can see how the two pieces will fit together to create the finished card.

5.  Now you are going to punch your first window.  The window you create must sit right beside the folded strip on the card front, and it must not be wider than 13/4", which is about the same width as the strip.  If you make a window that is too large the strip won't slide all the way over your window and you will be able to see the edge of the cardstock.

6.  Adhere the front of the cardstock to the centre part of the card using double sided tape.  Place the tape on the right hand panel of the centre part of the card, which you will notice is narrower than the card front.  Carefully match the outer edges and adhere together.

7.  Using the previous window as a guide, punch through the second piece of cardstock.  You should now have a window that goes through both layers of cardstock.

8.  You need to punch one more window through the next panel of the large piece of cardstock.  Again use the previous punched section as a guide to line all the holes up.

This is what your card should look like at this stage.

9.  Open your card, which will push the strip across the window revealing the hidden image... this is the image or sentiment that will appear inside the card after it's opened.  Use a pencil to mark around the window so you have a guide for placing your stamp.

10.  Stamp your image or sentiment inside the marked area.  Remember, this is the second image the recipient will see.

11.  Now repeat the process through the front window of the card, stamping with the first image you want to see on the closed card.  When the card is opened the second image slides forward into the window.

12.  Add a strip of double sided tape along the fold between the first and second panel of the large piece of cardstock, then close the card so it adheres in the right position.  This will keep the sliding section from popping out of place.

13.  Time to decorate your card!  I heat embossed a panel for the front of the card, added some ribbon, punched flowers and rhinestones.

14.  I also added some matching stamped images to the inside of the card.
