Day 6 - Masking (tutorial)

Masking is a technique in which part of an image is covered to prevent the application of colours or mediums.  Paper crafters often use masks when they want to stamp several images in one design without them overlapping or when they want to keep particular sections clear of ink or paint.

 

For today's card, I've used masking fluid, embossing powder and distress inks to create a moonlit snow scene.

I started by stamping and heat embossing my image onto watercolour paper.

Use an OLD paintbrush and masking fluid to block out

the areas you want to remain clear of paint.

The masking fluid is slightly tinted so that you can see where it has been applied.  Allow it to dry for a few minutes before adding your paint or ink.

The masking fluid comes off easily by gently rubbing it with your finger.

You can now add any additional detail to the previously masked areas.
