Masking is a technique in which part of an image is covered to prevent the application of colours or mediums. Paper crafters often use masks when they want to stamp several images in one design without them overlapping or when they want to keep particular sections clear of ink or paint.
For today's card, I've used masking fluid, embossing powder and distress inks to create a moonlit snow scene.
YOUR TURN: Use masking on your card.
Upload your creations HERE.
I started by stamping and heat embossing my image onto watercolour paper.
Use an OLD paintbrush and masking fluid to block out
the areas you want to remain clear of paint.
The masking fluid is slightly tinted so that you can see where it has been applied. Allow it to dry for a few minutes before adding your paint or ink.
The masking fluid comes off easily by gently rubbing it with your finger.
You can now add any additional detail to the previously masked areas.

Absolutely beautiful! Wonderful masking! Why is it when I pop in here, I think I should dig out my Christmas CDs to get myself in the mood haha!?! Actually I think I will go dig out my Christmas CDs! Thanks for the inspiration! I haven't been making any cards yet this month - complete loss of mojo! Maybe those CDs will help...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the masking technique. I think the outcome with the moon behind the trees and the look of snow around the surrounds makes a perfect Christmas card, and one to cool us down under her in Australia...love it Beccy and I am sure many ladies will be experimenting today. Mind you I have not used masking fluid before so that is a new one for me. Mine has always been the stamping mask technique. Cheers.x

ReplyDeleteHi Crafty,
DeleteIf you find the masking tape (or other adhesive) is too sticky for your project, try sticking it to your clothes two or three times to help reduce the amount of tack.
Cheers,
Beccy
Beautiful!
