Card Kit Class - Triple Pop Up Card

For a card with a bit of "wow", you really have to try these triple pop-up cards! Not only are they made from a single sheet of A4 cardstock, but they also fold flat to fit into a standard envelope. The fact that they have three layers means you can take the embellishing to the next level!

SCORING TEMPLATE

CUTTING TEMPLATE
Cut all three pieces of cardstock from one A4 sheet by following the guide below.

CUTTING GUIDE
You'll need one sheet of each design.

Cutting measurements for patterned paper are included in the written instructions.

SUPPLY LIST
  • Just Desserts card making kit - one sheet of each design
  • small sharp scissors for fussy cutting
  • paper trimmer
  • adhesives - liquid glue, foam tape, double-sided tape
  • white A4 cardstock cut into three pieces - 10.5cm x 14.8cm,  8cm x 19.8cm, and 5.5cm x 17.5cm
  • corner rounder (or decorative edge punch, or cutting dies)
  • sentiment stamp and ink pad

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Trim your A4 cardstock into three pieces - one measuring 10.5cm x 14.8cm, one measuring 8cm x 19.8cm, and one measuring 5.5cm x 17.5cm. (You will be able to cut all three pieces from one sheet of cardstock using the cutting template above)

2. Use a corner cutter to round the top corners on each piece of cardstock. (Alternatively, you could use a decorative border punch, a cutting die, or a pair of scissors to add a decorative edge to the tops of your cardstock).

3. Score the 8cm x 19.8cm piece of cardstock 1cm from the non-rounded end, then again at 3cm, 5cm, and 7cm. Do the same on the 5.5cm x 17.5cm piece of cardstock. Fold along the score lines. (If necessary, refer to the scoring template above.)

4. Trim the plaid paper to 10cm x 14.3cm. Trim the striped paper to 7.5cm x 12.3cm. Trim the spotted paper to 5cm x 10.3 cm. Use a corner cutter to round the tops of each piece of patterned paper, then secure them to the cardstock.

5. Stamp a birthday sentiment on the back of the 10.5cm x 14.8cm cardstock.

6. Flip the 8cm x 19.8cm piece of cardstock over. Fold the cardstock up along the second score line.

7. Apply glue along the 1cm section of cardstock. (I've marked it with pencil in the photo below)

8. Now bring the bottom section up, folding along the first score line and securing the glue to the back of the cardstock. This will create the pop-up section of the card. (See the photos below for correct placement).

9. Repeat the process for the 5.5cm x 17.5cm cardstock, creating a second pop-up section.

10. Flip both pieces over. Working with the larger piece, press the pop-up section downward so that it flattens.

11. Apply glue to the lower section, indicated below with hatching.

12. Turn the piece over, keeping the pop-up section flat, and lay it in the centre of the large piece of cardstock, over the patterned paper. The top and bottom edges should align. (See photos below).

13. Repeat the process with the smaller piece, aligning all the top edges, and aligning the bottom edge of the small piece with the score line on the medium piece. (See the photos below).

Your card base is ready for embellishments!

14. Fussy cut all the images indicated in the cutting guide above. Secure the little tart to the centre of the spotted paper, allowing some of it to extend slightly beyond the edge. Don't add any adhesive to the cherry stalk at this stage. Take care not to get any adhesive on the overhanging sections or you may glue your card closed.

15. Secure the sentiment strip over the cherry stalk, bringing the tip of the stalk to the front of the sentiment. (See the photos below)

16. Secure one of the large flowers over the bottom left side of the cake plate. Allow some of the flower to extend over the edge of the cardstock, taking care not to add any adhesive to the overhanging section.

17. Add a small flower in the centre, covering the cake plate and touching both the strawberry and the large flower.

18. Place another small flower at the top right of the tart image, partially covering the raspberry and the sentiment panel. Take care not to obstruct any of the words.

19. Secure the small butterfly to the top right-hand corner of the striped paper (second layer). Allow one of the wings to extend over the edge, but NOT beyond the bottom layer.

20. Secure one of the medium flowers to the second layer so it sits behind the strawberry top. Again, don't allow it to extend beyond the bottom layer (plaid paper).

21. Add a large flower over the medium flower where indicated.

22. Secure a medium flower on the lower, left-hand side of the second layer so that it sits just beside the large flower when the card is closed.

23. Adhere the large butterfly to the top, left-hand corner of the third layer (plaid paper). Don't allow it to extend beyond the edges of the cardstock.

24. Now we're going to secure a medium flower to the BACK of the spotted layer, on the left-hand side, slightly below the sentiment strip. You can adhere the flower to both the cardstock layer and the sentiment strip for extra strength.

25. Secure a small flower just below the medium one, on the back of the spotted layer.

26. Secure a small flower on the back of the top, right-hand corner of the spotted layer. It will cover the butterfly when the card is closed.

27. Secure the final flower to the top, left-hand side of your card, just over the edge of the sentiment strip. (Feel free to add some rhinestones or shimmer pen if desired).
