In the idealised world of social media, it's easy to forget that the finished item we're seeing isn't always the first attempt... or even the second, third or fourth! Even those of us who have been practising our craft for a long time have days when things go wrong. I've decided to start collecting some of the "uh oh" moments that happen in my crafty space so that I can share them with you here. Some I've managed to fix, while others have been filed at the very bottom of the trash can!
This first one is an error of judgement. I thought I'd have plenty of room to stamp out a sentiment on a piece of scrap card, but it turned out I didn't leave quite enough space between my sentiment and the last area I cut from. The result was a couple of bites taken out of my oval! I managed to save it by positioning the edge just under the image panel.
I wasn't so lucky with my second mistake! Not enough pressure on the centre of my stamp resulted in a gap in the design. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot I could do to save this one, but happily, card stock has two sides so I just flipped it over and tried again.
Thanks for sharing your "oopsies" and what you did to fix it (or otherwise). I always try to see what I can do to retrieve things rather than bin them. Hopefully, I will get some more ideas from posts like this one!
ReplyDeleteI love your bloopers posting here - most all of us [probably all of us] makes mistakes in crafting - great you can turn over the cardstock and re-use - and fixing that oval blooper was grand too - I have a Misti - love it!! I shutter when I have to use my ink blocks for stamping or a wooden rubber stamp - and I still do that - but my go to is that Misti - I see Tim Holtz has his own version out as well - [and I could have picked on up for less money then what I spent on my Misti - sigh--- but glad I have it. Thanks for sharing your post Beccy - it was fun and entertaining and I mean that in a good way!
ReplyDeleteActually you're not the only one Beccy, with those bloopers ;) I've done sometimes the same, to hide my mistakes I cover it with a little flower or something else.
ReplyDeleteAnd your second mistake, it helps to use a Stampin Buddy ( Misti), then you can inkt it once again.

Oh Beccy I make mistakes all the time. Sometimes I try designs a few times to get them right. At the moment I am struggling with getting my layers straight. We do all learn from our mistakes though so it is good to own them. Take care. Hugs Jackie
ReplyDeleteI make booboos all the time but most of the time I can save them, as you did with your sentiment. For stamping oopsies like your second one, that doesn't happen to me as much any more because I have a MISTI stamping tool (highly recommend!). Thanks for sharing your bloopers! We can all definitely relate!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah--been there ...done that! I like seeing how you fix yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your bloopers. It reminds me not to get too frustrated. :)
