Last year I purchased the whole set of Tim Holtz's distress markers with the intention of stamping up a whole rainbow of pretty images. But for some reason I just couldn't get them to stamp as vibrantly as I wanted... probably something to do with the paper I was using. Anyway, they kind of languished on the shelf for the next few months with the occasional trip to the craft table with very little success.
Over the weekend we got to talking about them in the Yahoo card group I'm a part of with people sharing their stories of varied success. I decided to pull them back out and give them another go, this time with the intention of using them to colour a heat embossed image rather than using them to ink up a stamp...
... I don't know why but all of a sudden the markers and I just clicked and I am thrilled with the results! I had so much fun that I decided to do the birdhouse as well, and tomorrow I'll be making them up into cards.
oh wow these are so pretty! I really need to get me some of these markers.

ReplyDeleteYou have coloured these so beautifully - I don't have the markers and would love to try some
ReplyDeleteWow!! Thanks for sharing these beauties Beccy!! I would love to know what you mean when you say you coloured the heat embossed images and what cardstock do you use? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHazel xx
Hi Hazel. I used medium coarseness watercolour paper for this project. I stamped the image with clear versamark ink, sprinkled black embossing powder over it, shook off the excess and then heat the embossing powder with my heat tool until it melted. You can probably find lots of tutorials on the internet if you do a search on "heat embossing" or "embossing powders". Hope this helps.
DeleteCheers,
Beccy
WOW, this is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI really love what you did.
With my daughter, during the weekend, we were looking for tutorials on how to use distressed markers, because she won a candy and one came as part of it and have no idea on how to use them.
Your work is much more better than what I saw in youtube!!!!!!!!
Hugs,
Ardilla

Same with me Beccy, had intentions of colouring stamps but found these markers don't work that well with clear stamps (of which I have loads) but great on rubber stamps which I don't have a lot of.
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me to get them out and do some "proper" colouring as yours turned out so beautiful....... can't wait to see the cards you make with them : )
Wauw, this is relly beautiful. Lovely cards!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

ReplyDeleteWow...they are lovely and vibrant and soft all at the same time. I like to know what changed over the year....was it didn't paper or choosing deeper colors! What's the secret?
ReplyDeleteHi Beccy,
ReplyDeleteWOW, these are absolutely fabulous!! I see you are thrilled with the results and rightly so, I would be jumping for joy if I were able to produce something as lovely as this. I've often thought about getting these markers but decided against them as I thought I wouldn't be able to use them properly and plus my craft room is coming down with markers of various makes. After seeing the results you have achieved I now think I will get them. Thank you for sharing.

I agree with Cardchic..you will have to do a video on you tube next then he he, you are so good at these tutorials :) Viv xx
ReplyDeleteBeautifully colored. I may need to look into some of these markers. Things work that way sometimes... at class I always messed up heat embossing. It wasn't until I borrowed a heat gun and spent a day playing that I decided I could it. Now I love to heat emboss. Did all the sentiments on my Christmas cards last year. You just have to do it! Perseverance!!! My grandson would like that word.
