I attend a stamping club with lots of lovely and talented ladies. A few months ago one of them showed us how to make cards using paper napkins or serviettes. It was a surprisingly simple process with basic tools and supplies that most of us would have lying around our craft studios.
Anyway, another lovely, generous lady gave me a little pile of gorgeous napkins that she had collected for her stash. I took them home, looked up napkin art and found that they can be used on all sorts of items, including candles.
There are lots of great tutorials online, so I won't recreate the wheel, but I do encourage you to give them a try... I warn you now though, this process is extremely addictive and you will require more than one candle!!
Oh wow Beccy these all look fabulous.I tried to put a photo of our two grandbabies on candles over Xmas but it didn't work out, put me off using candles.....these look easier though maybe and so lovely too :) Viv xx

How did you do this i want to surprise my beautiful daughter.
ReplyDeleteHow did you do this?
ReplyDeleteHi Skinnycookie.
DeleteBasically, you melt the napkin into the surface of the wax candle. You need to separate all the layers of the napkin (usually they are 3 ply) and cut it to fit the candle. Wrap the napkin around the candle, and then wrap a piece of baking paper around the napkin. Use your heat gun to heat the candle and the wax will melt through the napkin holding it in place. The wax melts very easily so don't leave the heat in one place for too long... and be careful of the hot wax on your skin!
As I mentioned in the post, there are a lot of tutorials on the internet related to napkin art... just do a search and all sort of things come up.
Cheers,
Beccy
Beccy, what is baking paper? I have looked at tutorials but they show using only the napkin and an iron. You refer to a heat gun. I notice yours are glossy and would like mine that way. Is that from the "baking paper?" Will wax paper work also?
DeleteBaking paper is paper that you use in the oven to prevent cakes and cookies from sticking to the trays. I believe it is also called parchment paper or bakery release paper.
DeleteMy candles aren't overly glossy, they probably just appear that way in the photo. That happens when the outer layer of wax on the candle starts to melt and absorbs into the napkin.
Cheers,
Beccy
Stunning! This is something that I really need to have a go at! :o)
