Under The Weather

The rain cloud is a separate image within the set, but really works well with the little rhino who is looking wistfully at the sky. I'm sure we've all felt this way from time to time!

Hey Friend!

A little bit of glitter never goes astray, particularly when you're creating a card for a wonderful friend. Anesha has used blue glitter card to create the base of her first project and teamed it with silver cardstock, fabulous colouring and hand-drawn borders. Her second card has an awesome watercolour background that she's repeated on the die-cut foliage for a wonderfully cohesive look.

Get Well Soon

Easel cards would have to be one of my favourite fancy folds... they're quick and easy and always look great when open for display. Plus you can make them from almost any shape card base.

Wild About You

The giraffes from the What's Up set were designed to stand side-by-side without any overlap or need for masking. Perfect if you want to send a card on behalf of the whole family or a group of friends or co-workers. And once Christmas rolls around again, you can expect to see these guys with Santa hats and tangles of lights around their necks!

Feelin' Better

It would be difficult not to feel better with one of these cute cards created by Judy with the Under The Weather set of digital stamps. She used a mixture of images and sentiments to create these fabulous projects, then added complimentary papers, cardstock and embellishments to complete the design.

Tutorial - Diamond Point Card

Diamond point cards are easy to make and can be created from a square or rectangular card base of any size. The fabulous design also allows the inside of the card to show, so a piece of coordinating paper can add some great contrast.

1. Begin with a square or rectangle card blank of any size, scored and folded in half. I have chosen a 51/4" square to create my card.

2. Open the card flat on the desk in front of you with right sides facing up. Find the centre of the bottom edge and mark it with a small pencil line.

3. Use your trimmer or a craft knife to cut between the centre fold and the pencil mark on both sides of the card. You will be left with two triangular offcuts and a card with a large triangle front.

4. Prepare some patterned paper for the front of the card, the two triangle offcuts and the inside.
(The easiest way to cut the triangle sections is to begin with a piece of patterned paper that is 1/4" smaller than the size of the card you began with - in my case that is 5" square. Mark the centre of the bottom edge in the same way you did for the card front, and then cut between the top, left corner and the pencil mark, and then the top right corner and the pencil mark. Note that the pieces will be just 1/8" smaller than the cardstock, so when you are cutting the square for the inside of the card, you will need to cut it to 51/8" to match.)

5. Adhere the patterned paper to the various sections of the card base and the triangle offcuts.

6. Secure the left hand triangle to the left hand side of the card front, keeping the adhesive on the areas that touch the front of the card... you don't want to glue it shut! For correct placement, manoeuvre the triangle so that each point remains inside the boundaries of the card. See the photos below.

7. Secure the right hand triangle in the same way, taking care to keep the adhesive only on the front panel of the card.

8. Embellish the card as desired. I kept it simple with an oval shaped sentiment panel, layered with matching paper and cardstock and one of the sentiments from the What's Up set of digital stamps.

Hey Friend!

Deanne combined some pretty floral paper and a scattering of rhinestones with one of the images from the What's Up set for her card. A simple scalloped border along one side adds some interest and texture and shows off a little more of the base cardstock.

Get Well Cards

Anesha has created a wonderful collection of get well cards using the images from the new Under The Weather set of digital stamps, along with matching sentiments. Her first and second cards feature beautiful nesting dies that give a wonderful decorative edge that contrasts perfectly with the images. Her final card is embellished with die cut grasses that are the perfect compliment for the rhinoceros image.

Everything Papercraft - Dimension

When we talk about dimension in papercraft, we’re generally referring to the third spatial measurement known as depth. Since we begin our projects with flat pieces of paper that have only length and width, the challenge is in adding depth so that the eye perceives a three-dimensional image. Paper crafters meet this challenge by adding shadows and highlights that help to shape objects that are stamped, printed or drawn onto a flat surface.
We also create layered cards by fussy cutting elements and building them one on top of the other so that some items are “behind” and some are “in front”, tricking the eye into seeing depth. This is also done with stamped and masked images. Think of the little scenes we create that have a forested background with animals layered over the trees… that’s depth.
Stepped and pop-up cards are literally three-dimensional as they take up space not only vertically and horizontally, but also with depth.

Wild About You

Check out the fabulous cards Judy created with the new What's Up set of digital stamps! She mixed and matched patterned papers, cardstock and even some stencilled designs to compliment the giraffe images she chose for her projects.

Hey Friend

I used the no-line colouring technique for this handsome fellow, and then followed up with a fussy cut and some foam tape to pop him up on my card base. The background is a sheet of kraft cardstock that has been dry embossed with a swirly design and then gently inked to help boost the pattern a little more... plus it gives lots of great texture!

Hot Tip Tuesday

There's no need to stock up on coloured embossing powders if you already own lots of coloured stamp pads. Simply load up your stamp with coloured ink, add a layer of Versamark (if the ink is quick drying), stamp on your prepared surface and apply clear embossing powder. Heat set the image for a fabulous coloured result!

Under The Weather

Deanne combined the bear image and the little raincloud from the Under The Weather set to create today's card. To complete the scene, she drew in a horizon line, added some tufts of grass and coloured both the sky and the ground around the bear.

Back On Your Feet

This card started out as a full circle with a scalloped edge, but for some reason it just didn't look right. A quick chop to add a flat edge along the bottom plus some nesting layers and I was happy with the new design.
