Crocheted Hippo

A few months ago I finally learned how to read and follow a crochet pattern.  Ever since then I've been churning out hats, booties, bears and doilies... it's quite addictive!  Anyway, I just wanted to share a photo of my latest make.  It's a gorgeous hippo that my son has christened Helena.  I purchased the pattern online from a very clever lady who designs her own crochet and knitting patterns for people to buy.  Her business is called Heidi Bears and if you're a yarn enthusiastic, or even a beginner like me, I would highly recommend taking a look at some of her wonderful creations.

This is just too stinking cute! Interesting name, Helena. lol I only know how to crochet a straight line and what I think is called a three hook. Something like that... and I HAVE to crochet from left to right. I made a baby blanket for my oldest son and It caused the blanket to have a wave. Then, I tend to start out with a tight hook and loosen as I go so my son's blanket is crooked like you wouldn't believe! Last time I was adventurous. lol But this is awesome, Beccy! I love her name too! :)

Hi Gail,
I would suggest going to a class if you have one in your area. I went to one in our local library that was being given by a friend of mine. When I came home I started practicing right away and anytime I got stumped I would turn to YouTube.
You need to keep in mind that there are two different types of patterns - US and UK. The stitches are the same but they have different names, which can be very confusing if you aren't aware of it.
Keep at it Gail, it's definitely worth mastering.
Cheers,
Beccy
